AUAN reminds us all to vote

From the AUAN> Remember,  “No Vote, No Voice”   AUAN has been in contact with officials at the censo electoral and can confirm that on the 6th of October some 20,000 letters were sent to EU residents in Almeria attaching a Voter Registration Form (DFA-1) so that they can register to vote in the forthcoming local elections.    The form has been sent to persons not registered to vote in the local elections, but who Continue reading AUAN reminds us all to vote

A lovely spider

Found a new friend this morning. The size of its’ body, to put it in reference, would be about the size of two euro coin. No idea if it’s vicious, but the gardener who found it refused to let it bite him, although it was giving it a good go through his (very big) glove. Any idea what it is? It’s in a field next door, if anyone wants to identify it.

Big citizen beach cleanup in Cabo de Gata this Sunday

Ecologistas en Accion, the ecologist group, has organised a citizen’s beach cleanup of the famous Los Escullos beach in Cabo de Gata this Sunday 17th, starting at 10am. The beach will be cleaned between, at least, Los Arcos and El Embarcadero. The aim is to remove all the plastic and litter left from the summer (EeA describes it as “horrendous”) and also a volunteer team will be cleaning up an oil spill they found there Continue reading Big citizen beach cleanup in Cabo de Gata this Sunday

No new hospital for Albox

The hopes of Albox for having its new hospital built seem further away than ever. The hospital, announced in 2007, is still in the “preliminary planning” stages, and the Junta de Andalucia has now confirmed that not  even the exact location is confirmed, and that the project is not a priority for the Junta. It will be allowing other local towns to put forwards planning applications for the county hospital in order to judge the Continue reading No new hospital for Albox

Cuidadanos Europeos moves into Arboleas

Lenox reports from theentertaineronline.com -he’s far more into local politics than I am, so I suggest you keep up to date via him- that Crispin Welby has setup a new branch of Cuidadanos Europeos in Arboleas. Crispin announced his intention to setup a party on my site here: Fresh new political party in Arboleas. Damn good idea. A national party, focused on immigrants resident in Spain and who want to participate in their villages, with Continue reading Cuidadanos Europeos moves into Arboleas

Lots of expats loose land to new Mojacar water pipe

When you gaze at the list of people who are having land expropriated to make way for the new Carboneras – Vera water pipe, which brings fresh water into our arid little area from the desalination plant, you realise just how many Brits own land in the area. Lots of them. Anyway, if your name is on the list, turn up at the townhall on the right day at the end of the month for Continue reading Lots of expats loose land to new Mojacar water pipe

Footballer talks to Catalan reporter in Andaluz and causes a storm

Following on from yesterdays rant about if you want to sell in Spain, speak Castellano and not your regional dialect, it’s a little ironic that today’s El Mundo is reporting that Seville born footballer Sergio Ramos is in trouble for sarcastically asking a Catalan reporter “you want it in Andaluz?” The team was in Salamanca for yesterdays game against Lithuania when a Catalan reporter at the press conference stood up and had a long chat Continue reading Footballer talks to Catalan reporter in Andaluz and causes a storm

Another 1,000 homes illegal? This time, it’s Cuevas

Stunning. The PSOE party (in opposition) in Cuevas have leaked some confidential documents saying that the Supreme Court have annuled the town plan, meaning over 1,000 building licenses have been revoked. As is normal in these cases, so far everything is being done under wraps, so nobody knows anything about it. See> 1,000 homes in Cuevas may be illegal as courts revoke license Urban abuse, corruption or just the townhall keeping things quiet until they Continue reading Another 1,000 homes illegal? PP says Almeria was underpaid by 1,200 million euros this decade

Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría is the PP spokeswoman in the Spanish Congress, and is currently in our fair corner of the world after it was discovered her great grandparents came from Serón. (Which allowed La Voz to say “Soraya Sáenz de Santamaría desciende de Serón“… try saying that three times fast after a shot of tequila). After her visit to Serón, and with her car boot groaning under the weight of free jamons, chorizos and Continue reading PP says Almeria was underpaid by 1,200 million euros this decade
