Wacky Races in Villaricos

On Saturday, 6th November, the annual Wacky Races will once again cruise around the streets of the small village of Villaricos, near Vera, for the 4th annual ‘Autos Locos’ in aid of local centre for people with learning difficulties, Asprodalba.

In the words of the famous Murray Walker, “Go! Go! Go!“ will echo through the pueblo, when parts of the village will be transformed into an exclusive race track for this fun event. There will be stalls, line dancing, a young Micheal Jackson impersonator, and a Rock n’ Roll show.

So far six teams have pledged carts for the event but the organisers would like more. They also need helpers to act as marshals and to sell raffle tickets, and are asking for any unwanted presents or anything that could be donated for the raffle or auction. All the proceeds from the event go to Asprodalba – who will be entering one of their own uniquely-styled go-carts. It is hoped that thousands of euros will be raised for this very worthy cause. Christina´s Bar – the nerve centre for the event, has a wacko-meter on the wall which is already reflecting progress.

Teams can consist of up to four members to drive and push their own home-made, non-motorised soap box / go-cart. There are also some ready-made carts for rent – if anyone can put together a team but not a cart. Starting at 11am outside Taberna Christina and finishing at around 4pm, there will be an ongoing bar and barbeque. One of the organisers, Mark Martin adds: “This may be a wacky request, but we also need a loan of around 20 bales of hay for safety on the corners of the race track. So anyone out there who can help with this, we would be very grateful.”
