It’s going to be easier to setup a company!

Anybody who has ever had to go through the hassle of trying to setup a company in Spain will know full well the problems, the heartache, the constant trips to the notario needed to get it going and off the ground.

For example: I’ve setup a ltd company in the UK in under 24 hours, for 64GBP and over the phone.

Setting up a Spanish company took me 6 months, two trips to the notario, and around €2400. Honestly, it’s like living in Ethiopia.

Finally, the Government, pushed along a little by Brussels, has decided to overhaul the whole system. Over 7000 laws will be repealed or modified by November 09. They will also overhaul Spanish almost medevial system of guilds (called Colegios Profesionales) to which professionals must belong if they want to practise. Thank the heavens.

  1. Good news. I did the same and went the English Ltd Co rute direct with Coys House. Cost 20 quid plus 5 for a solicitor to witness the declaration. Setting up the bank account has more than lost the gain in time and effort though…

  2. Hi David – how about a piece on the hated ‘colegios’?. These guilds are a closed-shop. They fix prices, they stiff the public, they are bureaucracies and they have the power to black-ball anyone they don’t like.

  3. They’re worse than the masons for their secret handshakes and public initiations. The missus is trying to get into the Gestors and Accountants colegio… I may write up on her experiences.

  4. Great post. I used to be checking constantly this weblog and
I’m impressed! Extremely useful information particularly the closing part :
) I maintain such info a lot. I was looking for this particular information for a long time.
