Turre fiestas 2008 (and potatoes)

<!– @page { size: 21cm 29.7cm; margin: 2cm } P { margin-bottom: 0.21cm } –>Turre is enjoying the start of its 2008 fiestas, with the usual fireworks (not just the bangs either, this year they had a few “pretty” fireworks) and a nice party in the main square.

For those of you who don’t know the rules, if you want a drink and a tapa from the main chiringuitos (Cholo’s Bar [sic] or Cazadores are the two main chiringuitos in Turre square) you have to buy a ticket from the appropriate stand before ordering. €1.50 for a beer and a tapa (remember, it was €2 just for a beer in Bedar!) or €1 just for a tapa. Nice tapas, too. Stand at the bar, or scrabble for a chair. If you’re a group, pay for a selection of tapas and a jug of beer or wine, it’s cheaper.

Or, have a chicken, churros, potato, or anything else that takes your fancy.

This is the traditional baked potato stand. They sell you a potato, baked, with a mayonnaise / ketchup sauce mixed into the potato and then you choose your topping. Delicious, hot, filling, and the best €4 you’ll spend for a while. I normally have one to brace me for the trip home in the wee hours. Or, you can have Churros con Chocolate. A churro is a strip of pastry dipped in frying oil then sprinkled with sugar and served with a cup of weak chocolate. In Madrid they have them for breakfast, I refuse to eat one if it isn’t 4 in the morning and after quite a bit of the demon water.
